Steve Jobs

by Jason from Fremont

"There's an old Wayne Gretzky quote that I love. 'I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.' And we've always tried to do that at Apple...And we always will - Steve Jobs

Apple Computer (Early Years)

Steve Jobs is my hero. He co-founded Apple in 1976 and has led the industry since. When Jobs was 21 years old, he saw a computer that his friend, Steve Wozniak, had built for personal use. He persuaded Wozniak to start a company with him to market the computer. Apple Computer Co. was founded (partnership) on April 1, 1976. Even though they had planned to sell the printed circuit boards, they ended up selling completed computers. These were known as Apple I and Apple II. They were a huge success and Apple became important in the personal computer industry.

Apple Inc. (Present)

Apple is also leading in the digital music revolution - sold over 110 million iPods and over 3 billion songs in its iTunes online store." In 2007 Apple entered the cellphone business and introduced the iPhone (a multi-touch display cell phone, iPod, and internet device). "Jobs still works at Apple for an annual salary of US$1, and this earned him a title in Guinness World Records as the "Lowest Paid Chief Executive Officer." His current salary at Apple officially remains US$1 per year. Steve Jobs is my hero because he has made people's lives easier in the computer department. If he never founded Apple, computers might not even have the GUI interface you are using right now to see this.

Pixar Animation Studios

In 1986 Steve Jobs bought a division of Lucasfilms and renamed it Pixar Animation Studios (computer graphics division), which has created 8 of the most successful animated films of all time: Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, and Ratatouille. Pixar has won 20 Academy Awards and its creative films have grossed more than $4 billion at the worldwide box office to date. Pixar merged with "The Walt Disney Company" in 2006 and Steve now serves on Disney's board of directors.
