Before World War II, he invented the engine for rockets. The first in the world. But later he was put into prison and he renewed his work only after the war. On the 4th of October 1957 the rocket made by Korolev made orbit as the first artificial fellow-traveler of Earth. In 1985 Korolev got the title of academician. On the 12th of April 1961 Korolev together with his collective realized successful starting of the rocket "Vostok-1" with Uri Gagarin on board, but suddenly he died and didn't finish all that had been in his mind.
S. Korolev was born on 12 December 1907 in Gitomer. He was from family of famous teacher of Russian literature by P. Korolev. At 17 years old he had already worked out a project about flying apparatus original construction - "aeroplane without motor K-5". In 1924 Korolev entered in polytechnical institute in Kiev, on profile about aviation technics. In autumn of 1926 he transfered to technical school in Moscow (MVTY). When he was studying in (MVTY) Korolev had already received a reputation for being so young as an able aircraft designer and experienced glider pilot.
Flying apparatus planned and constructed by Korolev: aeroplanes "Koktabel", "Red Star" and light aeroplane CK-4, awarded for achievement with a record distance flight. It showed the remarkable ability of Korolev in aviation construction.
Korolev had two wives. He lived with Ksenia Venzenti for 8 years. In this marriage he had a daughter who named Nataly. From second marriage he hadn't any children. He loved very much his second wife, but he felt lonely. Generally genius is unlucky in love. Eternal tragedy of genius!!! He died in 1966...
We think that Korolev made a huge contribution to space travel. He first decided send person in the cosmos. It was discovery to peace. Korolev made big investment in history and geography. He's a hero for us, because he was a great person. He made a major accomplishment which resulted in sending a person into space.
