Selena Quintanilla-Perez

What characteristics make someone a hero? Is it being honest and  kind? 

Those are only a few of the characteristics my hero, Selena Quintanilla-Perez, possesses. Selena was born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas to Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Marcela Quintanilla. Her dad was very involved in music and got her brother and sister to form a band. Selena became the singer of the band and quickly became popular as she played at her dad's restaurant. After recording her first album she rose to stardom  and won numerous awards. Her tragic death was on April 12^th, 1995, when she was shot by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar.   A hero must possess  kindness and honesty. Selena possessed  courage, honesty, kindness, and selflessness, and was appreciative for everything that happened to her, and therefore she is a hero.

Selena was always nice to everyone that she met. She was cheerful, sunny, friendly, and approachable to her fans. She was kind to everyone  regardless of their differences. "Cheerful, sunny, friendly, and approachable, down to earth and unpretentious, she still shopped at K-Mart and ate rice and beans." ("Selena." Selena (Biography Today)  Through the fame, Selena didn't forget who she truly was. She never let her fame go to her head and always stayed true to herself. She never forgot her morals and values and always appreciated her fans. "I think I'm very a kindhearted person. I don't like to hurt people's feelings. If I do, it's not intentionally. I'm sincere and very honest. And I feel that now days lot of people have lost that, but I think that starts in the home. My parents have taught me that. Being fair with people." (Selena Quintanilla-Perez)  In this quote by Selena herself, she shows that she was taught to be respectful at a young age. She doesn't like to hurt people's feelings and really cares about others. 

Selena was taught well by her parents and has strong morals and values. She was a very thoughtful and honest person and showed a very heroic quality: honesty. 

Selena was also a hero because she appreciated her fans. She was never rude to her fans and would always stop to chat.

"At home in Corpus Christi, fans would see her in restaurants, shops, or at home washing her car, and she was always ready to stop and chat."( "Selena." Selena (Biography Today)   Selena didn't let fame go to her head and she never ignored her fans. She always stopped to chat and didn't disappoint her fans who got her where she is today. Selena is also a hero because she would do anything for her fans, including rush to her concert after her plane was delayed instead of just canceling it.

Selena is a hero because she possesses courage, honesty, kindness and selflessness. Selena is a very honest and kind person, and possesses the qualities of a true hero. Selena inspires me because she is a role model to be a better person. She inspires myself and others to follow our dreams because they really can come true. Selena was a true hero who stuck to her morals and values and inspired others to due the same. Her legacy still goes on after her death and touches the hearts of millions.
