Sally Kristen Ride

My favorite hero is the famous Sally K. Ride because she made us, the females, proud that we can do anything that the men can do as well. Dr. Ride was the first American woman to orbit Earth. My hero was born on May 26, 1951 in Los Angeles. When she was young, she wanted to become a professional tennis player. She also attended Stanford University. One amazing thing about Dr. Ride is that she had entered an astronaut program after reading an ad in the newspaper. More than 8,000 men and women applied. 35 people were chosen, 6 were women and one of them was Sally K. Ride. She has also written many books, including books for children too. Some of the childrens books she wrote are: The Mystery of Mars, To Space and Back, and Space Pioneer. Dr. Ride is an important hero for me because she inspired me to be an astronaut when I grow up.
