My hero in life is my older brother, Sean. Can you believe it?! Out of all the people in the world who could be my hero it turns out to be my older brother. For many younger siblings their older sibling would never be someone they consider their hero. Oh sure, they admire the older sibling, but not to the extent of calling them their hero. My brother’s one of a kind, he even says so himself. I suppose the reason I think of my brother as my hero is because we didn’t really grow up together, so the love-hate relationship got lost. My older brother Sean has lived though a lot in his past 37 years, and he came out to be one of the most accomplished persons I know.

I didn’t grow up with any of my sisters or brother, but Sean was the sibling I was always the closest to. While I was growing up, Sean had already been there and done that. He taught me lots of things, like how to eat an olive “correctly”. By correctly he meant stinking the olive on your fingers then eating them off. He also taught me how to pull off what pranks on what people. The person who he mostly trained me for was my dad. My dad always says that my brother and I are really alike. I can somewhat see that, but my brother is a lot more daring. My dad once told me that my brother would take almost any dare you throw at him. My brother wasn’t a saint. He got in trouble a lot. It got so bad that my dad had to come up with new ways of punishment. For example when my brother mouthed off, my dad made him eat a hot pepper. Sean was said to have done it strong and proudly.

Sadly my brother’s life was not always full of happiness. When he was very young his mother abused him and my dad didn’t know about it because he was always at work. When my dad did find out about it they got a divorce. Sean was left without a mother and had a father that always had to work to support them. The result of this was Sean growing up faster. In his teen years Sean developed an interest in skate boarding. Because of his interest in skate boarding and his natural daring self, Sean has broken almost every bone in his body. When he left High School he got mixed up in the wrong crowd. He wound up living on the streets of San Pedro and lying to my dad. When my dad found out what was really happening he brought Sean back home. Sean being the proud person he is insisted on paying rent. After his experience in San Pedro, Sean became a more understanding and compassionate person.

When Sean finally settled into a new pattern of life, he ran into one of his childhood friends named Sunny whom he later on married. He currently has four kids: Justice, Peace, Montana, and Honor. As I’m sure you can already tell, all of their names have a special meaning. Their names all stand for the things he and his wife believe in. Even Montana’s name has a special meaning. If you think he seems sort of like a hippie then you're wrong. He would gladly beat you to a pulp for even thinking he was a hippie. Today Sean has everything he has always wanted and wants what he has. He went from a kid living in the gutter to a man with a wife, four kids, and lives in a gated community. He also is a part owner for a clothing company. And he wouldn’t trade his life for the world.

Sean is an inspiration because he became so successful and overcame all of his obstacles. He never even graduated High School. He most recently experienced a loss. His mother Claudine was on her death bed and wanted to see her only son for one last time. She hadn’t him since Sean was about seven. My brother Sean honored her wish and went to see her before she died. She asked him to forgive her for not being the mother she should have been, and Sean forgave her. That was one of the most gallant things I ever heard him do. So, all in all, I label my brother as my hero because he has overcome so much and came out with a positive outlook on life. He’s one of the best people I know. I also know that he will always be there for me to help me and give me advice as I continue to grow up.
