Shaun grew up in the small town of Florence, Kentucky. He attended Boone County High School where he starred on the football field for four years. Off the field he was just as good, being an honor student. Shaun earned a scholarship to the University of Alabama to play football. He also had offers from big schools such as Notre Dame.
Alexander's NFL career has been one of the most successful in the history of the league. After being drafted 19th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, Shaun took over the running back position during his second year in the league. During his career, he has gained over 10,000 yards from scrimmage and scored over 100 touchdowns. Also, he has been selected to three Pro Bowls and was the 2005 NFL MVP after he scored an NFL single season record of 28 touchdowns.
As stated earlier, Shaun's off the field accomplishments rival his accomplishments on the gridiron. He is the founder of the Shaun Alexander Family Foundation. The Shaun Alexander Family Foundation is a charitable and Christian organization. Each year the foundation raises lots of money to give to certain charities throughout the country. Shaun is also active in teaching kids a Christian way of life. All of these values were taught to him at a young age by his mother who raised Shaun and his brother by herself.
A hero is a person who makes a positive influence in this world with the gifts that he or she has been given. Many heroes exist in this world that we live in today. Shaun Alexander ranks up with the best of heroes that we have.
