Sidney Crosby is my hero because he is small, determined, aggressive, and does whatever he can to help people in need. Whenever Sidney hits the ice he plays with 110% effort. He is also strong because he is the leader, and youngest captain of the NHL’s second best team in 2007-08. When he does charity work for the I.W.K. Grace Hospital he does anything to help out with patients in need. He is not just a hockey player, but a person who tries his best to help others.

Sidney Patrick Crosby was born in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, on August 8th, 1987. “Growing up Sidney was a straight A student, and was always nice to everyone, even kids with disabilities,” says his middle school vice principal. Sidney Crosby wanted to be a goaltender like his father Troy. Sidney also admired Steve Yzerman.

Sidney played for Rimouski Oceanic, and Team Canada’s junior hockey team. He played on these teams because he was too young to play in the NHL. While he was on team Canada, Sidney donated his game worn jerseys for $22,100 to the Indian Ocean Earthquake Relief Fund in 2004. Sidney was climbing up the ladder to the NHL.

Finally in 2005 Sidney’s hard work paid off. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in what was called “the Sidney Crosby sweepstakes.” He was offered 8.7 million dollars per year. The average salary of a hockey player is 1.2 million. I believe Sidney is deserving of his paycheck. Sidney is brave when he hits the ice, never gives up, and always tries even when the Penguins are losing in a major, or small game.
