A hero can come in many different ways; different lifestyles, backgrounds, careers. What makes them a hero can also be quite different, some inspire, lead, save, create, but my hero simply followed his dreams and became not only an MLB baseball player, but a hero in my mind.

Stephen James Strasburg, born on july 20 in 1988 in San Diego, California is now a major league baseball right handed pitcher for the Washington Nationals, but before he became what he is now he had to take steps to get his opportunity to shine. He is the son of Kathleen Swett and Jim Strasburg, a dietitian and a real estate developer. He worked his way through a high school program to attend college at San Diego State University. In 2008 as a sophomore at the University, Strasburg went 8-3 with a 1.58 era (earned run average), and 134 strikeouts in over 98 innings. He pitched four full games of his thirteen starts and two ended up to be shut outs. he also obtained a Mountain West Conference record of 23 strikeouts in a single game.

Stephen went on to play in the minor leagues, starting for the Phoenix Desert Dogs in Double-A standards and soon was promoted to play triple-A for the Syracuse Chiefs. But before long in 2009, Stephen was drafted number one pick in the 2009 MLB draft by the Washington Nationals. He made his major league debut on June 8 in 2010, he played the Pittsburgh Pirates and earned his first win with no earned runs, 14 stikeouts and no walks, he set a new strikeout record for his team. He became the first pitcher ever to strike out no less then 11 batters without a single walk in his professional debut. He set another record in his second and third games with another 8, then 10 strikeouts, recording the most strikeouts in a pitcher's first three games.

You may ask, why is Stephen Strasburg my hero? I am here to tell you, a sixteen year old high school baseball player, whose dream is to one day be a MLB pitcher, following Stephen Strasburg's story inspires, and makes the toughest thoughts and doubts seem obtainable through practice, perseverance, and hard dedicated work. Stephen defines a hero in ways that maybe no one else knows. But for me, it is as clear as the cleanest water, Stephen Strasburg is my hero.
