Sacajawea

by Christopher from Ignacio

Sacajawea was a woman who lived as a slave of another tribe for a very long time! She was sold to Charbonneau, a French-Indian trader, when she was thirteen. Then she and her husband found more white men in the river. She and her husband assisted the Lewis and Clark expedition across the Rocky Mountains and she did all of this with her son on her back the whole way. She named him Pomp which meant first born. On her great trip across the Rockies she many have found her long lost brother and he gave them horses to aid them in their long trip across the Rockies. When they reached their destination they brought her and her son home. They don’t know if she ever found her brother or not, all we know is she was a great woman to help Lewis & Clark get across the Rockies.
