Diandra Paramitha Sastrowardoyo was a normal teenager when she started her career as a model through a model competition held by a magazine in 1996. After that competition she became a model, not only for that magazine but also for another magazine. She became a video clip model, an advertisement model for magazine and also for television. Her career in movies started with the film "Tragedy." Her acting wasn’t too perfect but she came back for her second movie "Bintang Jatuh."

Her fortune came when she starred in the movie, "Pasir Berbisik." This movie also starred Christine Hakim, an Indonesian senior movie star. In this movie Dian played Daya, a girl who wanted to see another world besides her world in a village. Her acting in this movie gave her an award from a French film festival.

A popular movie

Her biggest contribution for Indonesian Movie world was when she acted in "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?" (AADC) This movie became very popular, and made another movie maker in Indonesia wake up from their long sleep and make Indonesian movie industry run again. In AADC Dian played Cinta in a movie where she had to choose between her friends or a boy named Rangga. At that time Dian, who was a university student, played a high school age girl who was looking for her own priority. This popular movie sent Dian to a world that judged her as the #1 Indonesian young actress.

Not so long ago, Dian came back with her movie "Ungu Violet." In this movie Dian played Kalin, a young woman whose life changed when she became a popular model. After that Dian played in her newest movie called "Belahan Jiwa" (Soul Mates). In this “freak” movie, Dian really explored her talents by acting the part of Cempaka. This was a woman who had 4 personalities, excluding her real personality.

Through all the movies that I’ve explained, we can see the transformation of Indonesia's #1 young star, from a teenage model to an ultimate actress. The Indonesian movie world had slept for over a decade because of Hollywood movies that came tirelessly to Indonesia. Those movie made Indonesian movie viewers choose to watch Hollywood movies, rather than Indonesian movies that did not have prime quality. But when Dian and other movie makers came, Indonesia just like woke up to see the reality that Indonesian actresses, actors and movie makers have potency to make a prime quality movie. Maybe Diandra Paramitha Sastrowardoyo was just a little part of it, but she had “it” - that can make Indonesian viewers and maybe viewers from other countries realize that Indonesia can make movies. Dian has became a part of the Indonesian movie world that is full of talented people, but her plus score is that she can make people know that Indonesian movies still run, by her talent and totality in acting.
