Can you make your own language and talk to friends using your own language? You can make friends talk in your own language, but can you make people in a whole country talk in your language? It would be very hard. Korea was born with Korean’s own language, because Sejong the Great made Korean words or language called Hangul. Also, it was a kind of alphabet. Now I will tell you about Sejong the King who created Hangul, despite strong opposition from the scholars educated in Hanja.

Sejong was brave, despite strong opposition from the scholars educated in Hanja (Chinese script). He created the Korean alphabet called Hangul. Also, in this period of time, rich people demanded to write Hanja. The poor were very angry and sad because Hanja was too hard to write. Although they couldn’t go to school, Sejong the King created Hangul for them to write more easily. So he did one successful job! And many Korean people started to write Hangul and speak Korean words.

Sejong the King was a great inventor. He liked to invent many kinds of things. One of best rock machines was called water preservation. It made water fresh and cool. It was important, because during this period of time, water was very precious. If there was no preservation, water got hot or dirty. Many people used water preservation for saving water.

Sejong the King was the great king who thought about the people very seriously. So many people liked him that they just called him "The King," but his real name was King Sejong Janghean Yemu Inseoung Myeonghyo the Great of Korea. He was born on May 6, 1397 and died on May 18, 1450. But his real name was not forgotten, because he was Korea’s most famous king!
