Andriy Shevchenko

Have you ever heard of the name, Andriy Shevchenko? To you it is probably a name that you will forget in 10 minutes. To me it is more than just a name. It is the name of the man who I idolize. It is the name of the man in the giant poster by my bed. It is the name of a man who is a hero to me.

I can relate to Andriy Shevchenko. We were both born in Kiev, Ukraine. The main reason I can relate to him is because we both love to play soccer. There are people who play soccer in their spare time. Andriy Shevchenko and I like soccer more than that. Soccer is a part of our lives. We are also both very determined and hardworking.

Andriy Shevchenko is very athletic. You can’t be out of shape and be playing pro soccer at the same time. Andriy plays pro soccer on Chelsea F.C. He also plays international soccer for Ukraine. Andriy isn’t just any soccer player. He has won the Golden Ball soccer award. This award is given to the best player in Europe. He has also been named Ukrainian player of the year numerous times.

The last reason why I admire Andriy Shevchenko is because he is famous and rich. Why wouldn’t you want to be like a guy who makes about $56 million a year? That’s right; Andriy Shevchenko makes about $56 million a year! He is very famous in Europe. He is always in commercials and is constantly being interviewed by European sports reporters. He even appeared in an American commercial for Sports Center with Scott Van Pelt. Andriy Shevchenko’s jerseys are in most soccer stores. He also has other memorabilia in stores. People wear soccer cleats because they are the same brand that Andriy wears. People even bid up to about $95,000 for a jersey worn by him on eBay!

Andriy Shevchenko is amazing. I wish I was like him. I work hard everyday on and off the soccer field. Whenever I have to do something that seems impossible I think of Andriy. Maybe one day I can be like my hero, Andriy Shevchenko.
