When most people think of heroes, they think of weird guys in spandex with a theme song that goes “da dah da dum!” Well, I have a different kind of hero. I have a hero who is not just your ordinary guy, with extraordinary characteristics. My hero is Jeremy Stenberg. Jeremy is an FMX, or Freestyle Motor-Cross, rider but he isn’t just your ordinary rider. Jeremy has Tourettes Syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent involuntary movements, including multiple neck jerks and sometimes vocal tics, such as grunts, barks, or random words. This condition has made it difficult for Jeremy to function normally, much less be an FMX rider. However, he has won a great deal of medals and was discovered in his hometown of San Diego, where he got his first gold medal after he stomped the competition.

Jeremy, like other bike riders, is sponsored by many companies. Also like other riders, Jeremy has tattoos and, trust me, he hasn't held back on how many tattoos he’s gotten. Don’t let his appearance fool you, though. Like most Americans “Twitch," as they call him, has a loving and adoring family, which consists of a wife and children.

My hero, Jeremy, is very inspirational because he is able to overcome his tourettes and ride for all of his fans and sponsors. This man puts his life on the line, each time he rides, just to entertain and inspire all of the people who adore him. You can’t help but respect that! Think about this: If he twitches and throws the throttle off just a little bit, he could get seriously hurt, even killed.

I hope I’ve left you with a vivid impression as to why I admire this man so much. In my eyes, he is the best bike rider and even crazier than my own uncle, Tio Mie, who is the best I’ve personally met. However, Jeremy is still the best in my eyes! After all is said, I hope I leave a little bit of “Twitch’s” determination, commitment, and Rockstar mentality with you. For, to me, Jeremy Stenberg is a hero.
