Joseph Campbell once noted, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” A hero doesn’t only care about himself but about others. The hero is a role model. Heroes are extraordinary and do important deeds. Admiral Yi Sun-Shin is a brave and intelligent hero from Korea.
A brave hero from Korea is Admiral Yi Sun-Shin. He was born in 1545 died 1598. At around 20, he was just a common soldier then became an officer. Later he became a great Admiral and in time a scholar. In 1587 he got arrested by Yi Il because he was jealous of Shin. At the final battle with Japan in 1598, more than 450 enemy ships sunk and Yi Sun-Shin died. Korea won the war because they destroyed the whole Japanese navy. Admiral Yi Sun-Shin once explained, “The soldier who fights to death never dies, but the soldier who fights for existence never truly exists.”

This leader had many accomplishments in his life. In the war between Japan, Korea, and China, Japan at the time wanted to rule China and decided to take over Korea to gain quick access to China. At war, Admiral Yi Sun-Shin designed the Turtle Ship which was a big battle ship with iron plates over the deck. During the war, he sunk hundreds of enemy ships using the Turtle Ship. This Admiral did many important things to protect his people.
Brave, courageous, and intelligent are the qualities Yi Sun-Shin had. He was brave because he fought in a bloodstained war. Yi Sun-Shin was courageous for having no fear of dying. This leader was very intelligent because his smart strategies won many battles. He was indeed brave, courageous, and intelligent.
In conclusion, heroes give their time to help people. People look up to heroes as important role-models. Admiral Yi Sun-Shin was a really brave and intelligent hero from Korea. Heroes are important and can be famous or your everyday neighbors. Admiral Yi Sun-Shin is a hero in Korea for saving his country from Japanese rule.
