Superman

by Alysa from Riley, Kansas

The word ‘hero’ doesn’t just apply to superheros with special powers; it applies to anyone who chooses to make a difference in the lives of others.

A man so strong he can stop a moving train without receiving a scratch; so fast, he is said to be faster than a speeding bullet. So cool, he has freeze-breath. Who is this man? SUPERMAN! The number one superhero that has ever lived! He used his powers for the betterment of Metropolis, and the Earth. Superman, a man any one can look up to and view as an icon for our very own way of life.

I view Superman as a hero because of the choices that he made. He chose to be an asset to our lives; to fight against crime and the evil people of our country and our world. When Superman crash landed on Earth he was only a child, but from then on he knew that he was here for a purpose. To help better mankind and to show us how to use our own abilities for the benefit of others, like he did.

Superman used his powers to aid Metropolis and the world in the abolishment of the evil that had seized it. He used his flight to save people from falling buildings; his super strength to stop trains from colliding, and his telescope vision to see meteors that would crash into the earth. Because of his actions he won the hearts of many.

Superman’s way of life is an example every person can use for their very own. He chose to live under the alter ego of Clark Kent, a reporter for the Daily Planet, to show us that humility is an essential part of life. For Superman, doing the right thing wasn’t a hard decision; but for us it is. Superman had only one weakness, kryptonite; we have an even more powerful weakness, ourselves. Kryptonite weakened Superman, but if we choose to listen to what we feel like doing it could hinder us from helping others. We have talents that we know can be beneficial to the people around us, but we have to choose to set aside our own wants for what we know is right.

The idea of a superhero, such as Superman, can be seen as an analogy in terms of how to utilize our talents in a positive way. Superman, though a fictional character, was an example and an influence to humanity in many different ways. Such as the way that we, as well as himself, have to choose how we want to conduct our lives from day to day. He showed us that using our abilities to help aid others around us can influence others to do the same. Superman showed us how to make the right choice, now it’s up to us to decide if we want to follow it.
