Sza

Solana Rowe or better known as Sza is a freckle faced beauty with a loud personality and a beautiful voice. She is known for her unique voice, quirky personality and her different sense of fashion. Sza first became my hero after my brother showed me a couple of her songs, then soon after I did a little research on her. I found out that she dropped out of college while studying marine biology. Even though she made this choice it still shows how she still followed her instinct to become an artist. Me as a freshman in high school can look at her situation and see that she still persevered to become something in life which means a lot to me.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook website, Musicians and singers typically perform live at events, concerts, and for recordings. Usually singers and musicians start out small the gradually grow to something big. This was Sza's case, starting out by recording a song with her brother just for fun, then eventually made it big. Most singers and musicians don't need education except for some classical musicians have a bachelor degree in music to get into certain programs. Sza's plan was to major in marine biology which doesn't relate to music at all but that doesn't matter because most musicians never even pursue college. The Occupational outlook handbook says, "The median hourly wage for musicians and singers was $24.20 in May 2015." Some related careers are Acting.

Growing up for Sza was a different experience compared to most kids. She had a Christian mom and a Muslim dad. She was raised as an orthodox Muslim along with her older sister. After 9/11 she was bullied heavily, which made her stop wearing her hijab. Also with her mom being an executive at AT&T, while her dad was the executive producer at CNN, things were always busy. Sza attended three separate colleges, starting out at Delaware State, but dropped out as a freshman while studying marine biology. Her plan after graduation was to become a scientist and travel. Her first accomplishment that was public, musically, was releasing her very first album which is called "S". "S" was released on October 28, 2013. Now sza has been performing with very big people such as, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and Chance the rapper. From now and when she released "S" she has released one other album called, "Z". Many people are questioning when her third album, "A" is going to be released but most websites say some time in 2016.

Sza is an inspiration to many people in many different ways. She is also a role model to many people that have been discouraged throughout their life because of the hardships she went through when she was growing up. People also view her as someone to look to for fashion ideas. She has appeared on Vogue more than once for her many unique outfits. Sza can also be looked up to as someone who dropped out of college and still made a career which is very motivating to many people. And lastly her music is very important and personal to her, and has helped herself, and many people to get through obstacles in life.

In order to live more like my Sza I will start off by taking marine biology in high school. I am doing this because Sza's first plan in life was to be a scientist. Also she was going to major in marine biology, until she found music, and biology is one of my interests. I also think I will pursue biology and chemistry in college like she tried to do. Sza also tries to be true to herself, and stay humble. When interviewing Kendrick Lamar Sza said she was nervous and was acting more like a fan than a fellow musician. That shows that she sees herself not as someone famous, just someone that enjoys and pursues music. Sza's actions, personality, and humbleness will carry on with me throughout adulthood to remind me to be true to myself and stay humble.
