Overall, he completed 27 of 47 passes, which means Oklahoma was throwing a dozen times a game. After Aikman was injured, Jamelle Holieway, a speedy running quarterback more geared toward the wishbone offense, stepped in and won the job forever. Aikman broke his leg and lost his job as a quarterback in the same year he didn't seem to give up as coach Barry Switzer gave Aikman a chance elsewhere.
