Tyra Banks

A hero is a person that changes things, saves lives, risks their own lives for the lives of others. They contribute something that benefits a person or animal. My hero is Tyra Banks. Tyra Banks is a truly amazing person who is very influential to several other girls all over the world. She teaches girls to love themselves for who they are and builds their self-esteem. She has contributed to the world in many astounding ways. She reaches out to people and helps them solve their issues. Tyra Banks is a wonderful person and hero to all kinds of people everywhere.

Tyra Banks was born on December 4th, 1973 in Inglewood, California. Tyra’s childhood was extremely blissful. She had an older brother, Devin, and two loving parents. Unfortunately, her parents divorced when she was six. Luckily, her parents were both still in her life. One of her favorite memories is all the food her mother would cook. She was taught to love food, not fear it, which is one of the various subjects she helps girls with. Her parents also taught her the importance of exercise. She saw her Grandmother die from lung cancer because she smoked, which stopped her from smoking or other kinds of drugs and alcohol. Her family was a tremendous influence throughout her life and taught her the life-lessons she teaches people today.

Tyro had much insecurity with herself as a young girl. She was extremely tall and skinny. Other children would make fun of her, calling her “light bulb head” or “Olive Oyl”. She was 5’9 and very thin. Eventually, she grew into her body, when she was about 17. Her family helped her see herself as beautiful. She makes girls see their inner- beauty and believe in themselves for who they are.

Tyra Banks has contributed to the world in numerous ways. She teaches women and girls all over the world to love themselves for who they are. She shows girls that inner beauty is more important than outer beauty. Her life experiences have made her the influential person she is today. Tyra won the Starlight Children’s Foundation of California Friendship award in 1997 for her dedication to children. She was the first African American on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Victoria’s Secret catalog, and GQ magazine. She was one of the many African American models to help break the color barrier in fashion. In 1998, she wrote the book, Tyra’s Beauty, Inside and Out, which is mainly autobiographic, to help girls feel comfortable with their bodies and minds. She created Americas Next Top Model to make opportunities for women to follow their dreams of becoming models, like her. Her talk show, the Tyra Banks Show, mainly addresses the issues women have in their everyday life and tries to help them improve these issues. Tyra Banks is a very influential and brilliant person who touches the hearts of people everywhere.

Tyra Banks’ life is a very blissful, positive one, full of ups and downs. Most likely her greatest obstacle was when she was a model. Being an African American model was very difficult because of racism. Also, being underestimated because of her job. People would think she was just a pretty face and nothing else. She proved them wrong by pushing through and working hard. She stayed level-headed and down-to–earth. Her main goal now is to give girls self- esteem because of this. Tyra has had some tough times, but she fought through and helps girls with similar obstacles today. Tyra Banks has a very admirable personality. Tyra is strong, courageous, and smart. She is friendly, silly and good through and through. She isn't afraid to show the clown in her. Tyra sincerely tries to help people who are struggling. She is always levelheaded and modest. She does not act like many people assume models act. She is outgoing and and just a very content person. Tyra Banks is a truly beautiful person inside and out.

Tyra Banks is my hero because she has taught me many lessons on numerous subjects such as health, fitness, inner beauty, building self- esteem, and more. She taught me that inner beauty is more important than outer beauty and to love yourself for you. That you don't have to change for anybody. Without her help, there would be countless people depressed and in horrible situations. She gives guidance and advice to people in hopeless situations. The things she talks about on her show, she makes so personal. Tyra really does care about horrible things happening in the world. Tyra is my hero because she is a truly amazing, inspiring person.
