Travis Barker

by Michael from Elgin

There are many kinds of heroes in the world. Some are smaller than others, but they still help make an impact on what goes around them. For a hero, however, I believe there are some qualities that they should have that are alike. For example, I believe that a hero should be determined. They should not back down when in a crisis, and should always follow their dream. Another quality they should have is to be caring. This hero or heroine should have something to fight for, someone or something to be concerned about. Also, the hero should be talented in some way, which he or she could use to help others. Finally, I believe that they should care for those who are less fortunate than him or her. Spending all of what you have earned and not even thinking about the poor is not heroic at all.

Over the past years, I have had many different heroes, from George Washington to Michael Jordan to Gandhi. Still, one has stuck out the most to me because of his many talents and incredible devotion to others and music. His name would be Travis Barker. Most people would not consider him a hero because of the way he looks or by his lifestyle, but when you look into his accomplishments and deeds he has done for others and for himself, I would definitely consider him a hero. Travis Barker is a drummer for the band Blink-182. According to www.totaldrumsets.com, he is the 87th best drummer in the whole world. He has his own family that he cares about, and he has had to fight through many issues to get to where he is now.

I believe that Travis Barker has met many of the qualities that make him a hero to me. For example, he is very determined. When he realized that he was interested into music, he began to try to do the best he could at many different kinds. He learned the drums, played a little trumpet, sang for the choir, and played the piano. Eventually, he realized that drums connected for him, and as a result, his high school years were spent playing for many jazz groups and marching bands. Another way that he is determined was during the middle of his career, when he was involved in a plane crash and had to go through medical treatment knowing that one of his good friends had died in the crash. Still, he fought on and played for his fans and family. Also, Travis Barker is heroic because he has a family that he fights for. Even though he had a few issues, he always tried to solve them together, having two children that he cares about. Finally, he is heroic because he puts others before him, such as his children. Also, he does charity shows with his band, supporting different causes, such as First-Aid.

Personally, I believe that Travis Barker is a hero because his music and life encouraged me to play and listen to my music. He also taught me many different aspects of life, such as determination. His determination and devotion to his family, friends, and fans is very inspirational, and hopefully, I can be as devoted as he is. Another aspect that he taught me was that it is hard to grow up. First of all, you have to make huge choices that will affect the rest of your life. Also, you have to face many obstacles and failures before you can finally reach your ultimate goal.

To sum it all up, Travis Barker is a very inspirational man. He never backed down from his problems, but instead faced them directly. One of my favorite quotes that he has said is "Thank you for life, and all the little ups and downs that make it worth living." This quote is very interesting to me, because it shows how much he loves life and all the gifts it brings. In today's society, people look at some artists and are extremely prejudiced just because of the way they look or by some of the mistakes they have committed. In the end, however, we are all human and because of this we all make mistakes. By looking at the accomplishments and deeds people such as Travis Barker do, I know that they are actually fantastic heroes.
