Have you ever wondered who is the amazing person who created "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Edward Scissor Hands", "Planet of the Apes", and "9" and other great movies. My hero is Tim Burton a famous movie director and in my opinion a great artist. Tim made plenty of great movies such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Batman" and over a dozen blockbuster movies. Born 1958 in Burbank California Tim Burton grew in suburbia watching monster movies, which inspired his quirky and unique style of drawing. I grew up watching Tim's movies and always loved escaping into his fantasies.
Despite the pressures of the big Hollywood studios Tim Burton still manages to stay true to his own ideas. Even when Disney tried to mold Tim into drawing the Disney way of drawing he remained true to his slightly creepy way of drawing. This style of animation in his movie got me interested in drawing at a young age.
Even though faced with an unhappy childhood and unsupportive parents Tim Burton never stopped perusing his ideas through drawing. Rather than live in his unhappy home Tim Burton at the young age of 10 left his home to live with to his grandmother who was supportive of his work. I think this took a great deal of courage. While living with his grandmother as an eighth grade student he won a design competition for the Burbank community and his drawing was selected to be on the cities garbage trucks for a year. Even as a kid he took himself seriously and this ability to work hard shows up later in his work as a young Hollywood director
As a student Tim did not do well in school and could not read or write well. As a young inexperienced director Tim was able to overcome those obstacles by using the creative side of his brain. When I struggle with obstacles Tim Burton gives me hope that I can get over them too. Tim was a young outsider from suburbia who stayed true to his own unique way of looking at life and rose to be one of Hollywood's most successful directors of all time. I think the most important thing is to believe in yourself, than you can do anything.
Tim Burton started his life in a suburban family that never really understood him or encouraged him yet he became Hollywood's most sought after director of original blockbuster movies. Tim overcame many personal obstacles by staying true to his own vision of life the way that he saw it. When Tim was asked if he was afraid of failing he said "I'm not afraid of that, I'll do what I want to do and hope for the best. The fear has to do with the aspect of showing it to people. I don't know if that's failure or just the fear of coming out into the open."
