Stomping Tom playing his guitar (I made this picture) |
My hero name is Charles Thomas Connors. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on February 9, 1936. His mom’s name is Isabel Connors. He was adopted by the Aylward Family from Prince Edward Island. He left home at age 15 and travelled across Canada. He wrote lots of songs about people and the places he went to. At a hotel in Timmins, Ontario, the bartender would give Tom a beer if he played a few songs and he got a contract to play at the hotel.

He signed with Dominion Records in 1969 and then two years later formed Boot Records. He made many albums during this time. He also won 6 Juno awards. In 1979 he protested against the Canadian music industry and gave back his Juno awards. In 1986 he formed A-C-T Records which promoted Canadian music and in 1988 EMI Canada re- released all of his previous music. Tom received the Order of Canada award and an Honourary Doctorate award from the St. Thomas University.

Stomping Tom playing his guitar (I made it by myself) |
Tom carried plywood with him when he played. He stomped on it to keep the rhythm when he played his guitar. That’s how he got his nickname Stomping Tom Connors.. This is a famous song that he wrote called The Hockey Song. It is my favorite song!!
"Oh! The good old hockey game,
Is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name,
Is the good old Hockey game!!"
He worked very hard on all of his songs for everyone to enjoy. Also I liked learning all about his life.
