My hero is Thomas Alva Edison because he is creative and never gave up. When he was seven he lost hearing in both of his ears which got him in trouble sometimes at school because teachers would think that he wasn't paying attention in class. Thomas was born in 1847 in the town of Milan, Ohio. He overcame adversity when he was little. It was tough when he was little and he had a hard life. At one point he had to be home schooled by his mom who used to be a teacher.

Sometimes Thomas Edison would make something and it would not work out so well. Sometimes he would go back to it and sometimes he would not go back. Thomas even made cement for dams, buildings and even Yankee Stadium. In Dec 6, 1877 Thomas made and tested the first Phonograph on a tinfoil cylinder and the song he played was “Mary had a little lamb”.

When Thomas was a little bit older, he worked on the train selling newspaper, magazines, fruit and candy. At one point he started to make his one newspaper with the things that the people on the train would like to read about. Tom liked to do science. One day all of his chemicals were on the train and one fell and made a fire. So he could not bring them on the train again. One day the station master’s very young son happen to walk in to the train tracks of an oncoming box car so Thomas leaped into action to save him. That day he was a hero.

Thomas got fired from some of his jobs but at age 21 he was a full time inventor. In 1876 Tom made a new lab from the money he got from his inventions he sold. In 1877 he makes the first phonograph and recorded the human voice. Then in 1879 he made the first light bulb. Then in 1894 he opened the first motion picture studio. To play the video, the person had to crank a handle that makes it play. In 1876 he made a new lab in Menlo Park, New Jersey which is right in between New York City and Philadelphia. There he made some his greatest inventions.

In 1928 Thomas gets a Congressional Medal for all of his inventions he made. Some of his inventions he made were the first light bulb holder, a talking doll and a meter to measure how much electricity a house is using. Thomas's hero was Abraham Lincoln. Thomas died on October 18, 1931 and was buried at Glenmont in West Orange, New Jersey.
