Teresa Edwards

by Alyssa Paronable from Milpitas

Teresa Edwards has done many successful things in her basketball life. The first successful thing she did was win gold medals in the years of 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996, and one bronze in 1992 for the United States Women's Olympic basketball team. The second successful achievement she did was to be awarded a gold and bronze medal at the World Championship in 1994. Teresa has won so many kinds of awards. She was one of the best professional basketball players in many places like Italy, Spain, and Japan. Afterwards, she had to retire being a superstar basketball player and just be a normal person like everyone else. One of only three University of Georgia women's basketball players to have her number retired, she was named USA Basketball Player of the Year, 1996.

Teresa Edwards is my hero because she shows that women and men are equal and can play different kinds of sports too. She made a difference in my life because you can come from a poor little place and become so famous by just working for it and following your dreams. She made me think about becoming something by working for it instead of trying to take the short cut because there are many ways to become famous by working for the biggest dream you ever have dreamed for. She is my hero because I would like to become one of the greatest women's basketball players just like Teresa Edwards. She has changed my life because I try to take all the tryouts they are giving out and to at least become like her.
