Terry Fox

by Keigen from Orillia

Terry Fox was a Canadian cross country runner. He ran across Canada to raise money for cancer. Lots of Canadians run in the Terry Fox run every year to raise money for cancer research.

Terry Fox was born on July 28, 1958 and his town was in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He went to university at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.

Dick Traum was a one-legged marathon runner. This showed Terry Fox that he could run on just one leg. Rick Hansen was a wheelchair athlete who never gave up on playing sports. This showed Terry that he should never give up.

He was given the award of Canada. I feel that Terry Fox was brave in playing all sports. Terry Fox showed that he was brave by running with one real leg and one artificial leg, which made it difficult for him to keep going.

Terry Fox influenced me because it makes me think about how cancer may affect someone in my family. I am trying to make a difference. I will do fundraising when we do it at school. Terry Fox ran across Canada for his cancer and for other people's cancer too. It changed the world because Terry Fox gave money to other people to research to find a cure for cancer.
