Terry Fox

There was a man who ran across Canada to raise money for cancer research. His name was Terry Fox. Terry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was born July 28, 1958. Terry had 2 brothers: Fred, Darrell and a sister Judith. Terry's parents' names were Betty and Rolly. Terry went to Simon Frasier University. Terry's favourite sport was basketball. He was on the basketball team but his coach said he was too short. When got his leg amputated he played wheelchair basketball. After he was the team captain of the basketball team.

At the age 18 Terry was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma in his right knee.They had to amputate his leg. The night before he got his leg amputated he was reading a magazine and he was reading about a person who ran a marathon with one leg. When Terry was in the hospital he saw lots of kid that were going through the same thing as him. Then his dream was formed to run across Canada. Terry kept his dream a secret for a couple of years. When he was training and people asked him what he was doing he would say he was preparing for the New York Marathon. When he told his parents and his best friend Doug that he was going to run across Canada, they thought he was crazy. No one could stop him from doing it. Then came the day of his run. He started his run on April 12th 1980. His dream was to raise a dollar for every Canadian. Terry would wake up at 4:00 in the morning to start his running.Terry met Bobby Orr on his journey. He also met a kid that had the same kind of cancer as him. He also had to get his leg amputated. Terry went swimming with him.

Terry had to stop his run September 1st 1980 because the cancer had spread to his lungs.He went back home to get some more treatment.Terry died June 28 1981. There is the story about the man who ran across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Terry was stubborn because he didn't listen when his Mom told him he couldn't run across Canada. Terry was also optimistic because he thought he could run across Canada. Terry was caring because he ran across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Terry inspires me because he ran across Canada to raise money for cancer research to save lives. Terry was just an ordinary man who ran across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
