TERRY FOX A STORY OF COURAGE

There was a man that ran across Canada to find a cure for a disease called cancer. This is his story. Terry Fox was first born in 1958 July 28 Winnipeg Manitoba.Terry had two brothers, Fred and Darrell, a sister named Judith, mother Betty and father Rolly. Terry went to Simon Fraser University and played basketball even though his couch said he was too short and Terry ended up being the captain of the basketball team and I thought that was cool. Terry Fox was diagnosed with cancer at age 18 and was upset.

Terry was reading running magazines and saw a one legged runner and got inspired. Terry also got inspired by seeing a bunch of kids younger than him going thru the same thing that he was going thru or even worse.that is how Terry would start practising his running. If people asked he said he was practising for a big marathon. He did not want anyone to know he wanted to run across Canada.

After all of Terry's hard work, he dipped his foot in the Atlantic Ocean and started his run in Newfoundland. Not a lot of people knew about his run, but Terry didn't care, he just kept on running.Terry would wake up 4:00 in the morning to start his run.Terry liked to run this time of day. On the way Terry Fox met new people. He met a boy and he went swimming with him and had the most inspiring day of his life. The boy had cancer just like Terry and he was only 12. He also met Bobby Orr and they had dinner in the CN Tower in Toronto. As Terry kept running he started to cough over and over again. So Terry finally said he needed to go to a doctor. When Terry went to the doctor it was more serious than he though it was - he had cancer in his lungs. When Terry found out he had cancer in his lung he had to stop the run and go home. It was hard for him to break the news to everyone but he had to do it. Terry Fox went back to his hometown and went straight to the hospital. He got some more treatment. He died June 28 1981, one month before his 28th birthday and his family was around him.

From that day on we do the Terry Fox run to celebrate how Terry almost ran across Canada and to complete his dream. Terry's character traits are caring, thoughtful and optimistic.Terry is caring because he cared for other people more than he cared for himself.Terry is thoughtful because when he saw the other kids in the hospital he paid attention to what the other kids going through and cared about it. Terry was optimistic because no matter what other people said he kept running. Terry inspires me because no matter what people said or how much it hurt Terry just kept going. There was a man that almost ran across Canada that almost found a cure for a disease called cancer. That man's name was Terry Fox. "Somewhere the hurting must stop "
