Thomas Jefferson

by Liz from Wallingford

My hero is Thomas Jefferson, who was the third president of the United States. He made many differences including taxes, sent forces against the Barbary Pirates, and in secret negotiations, Jefferson agreed to purchase the Louisiana Territory from France.

April 13, 1743, Shadwell plantation, Goochland County, Virginia.
"After the U.S. economy suffers at the hands of the embargo, Congress repeals the Embargo Act. Jefferson signs the Non-Intercourse Act the same day, closing U.S. ports only to France and England. Trade with the two countries is to be resumed when they agreed to respect the rights of U.S. citizens and vessels."

Jefferson was involved with the Declaration of Independence; also he was a very smart kid, who went to school his whole life, which makes him very smart. That came in handy because even though he was a shy person, his writing skills came in handy, for example the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson agreed to purchase the Louisiana Territory from France. This purchase was for $15 million, doubled the size of the United States. There was, however, no one was prepared in the constitution that provided for the purchase of land. He also sent forces against the Barbary Pirates.

Thomas Jeffersons goal was to change the life of people, and to make the United States stronger. He changed taxes which are one of the most main problems of the U.S; he also is a very good writer which came in handy when he wanted to change a law, because he knew how to support his facts.

I think Thomas Jefferson's advice would be to never give up, and stay in school, because he went through school and college, and look at him. He became a very talented writer, and president. So I definitely know that Thomas Jefferson would tell us to stay, in school, and never give up.
