Toše Proeski

What is he? He is a singer.

His childhood!

His birth name is Todor Proeski. He was born on 25th January 1981 in Krusevo in the center of Republic of Macedonia. His mother is Dominika and His father is Nikola.

His talent was shown at really young age so is parents have brought him up as a musician. As one of the best students of his generation he did a degree in Skopje. He was one of the rare people who was an educated pop musician in the area of Yugoslavia. His vocal was completed in New York, where he learned from the famous teacher William Rey. He worked with Luciano Pavarotti. He had a sister Lidija.

How did he start his career?

His musical career started in year 1995 with a performance in a kid’s festival “Melfest” in Prilep, where he won twice in a row during 1996 and 1997. After the performance in Malfest in the year 1997 in Štip and in a Festival in Skopje the following his breakthrough came in the year 1998 with this song “Ostani do kraja.” He participated in the selection for Eurovision. In 2004 he became the youngest ambassador of UNICEF.

His successes!

In year 1999 his first CD had came out “Nekada vo nokta”, in the same year with his song “Tvoji poljupci na mojoj bijeloj košulji.” At a festival in Skopje he celebrated his victory after being selected by the audience, in the summer he had his first solo concert in Skopje. From then on he made three successful CD and his concerts were always sold out. November 2002 he went to his first big tour. The producers thought that his biggest hit was “Čija si”. Then Toše began to build his international career. In year 2004 he became the youngest UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In 2004 he issued new CD “Dan za nas,” the fourth in a row and first we could buy in Slovenia. In 2005 he issued a hit album “Pratim te” and in 2006 had issued “Božilak.” On this one, Toše sang adapted Macedonian traditional songs. In August 20007 his CD “Igra brez granice” came out and some critics said that this album was the album of the year. The last big concert he had was on 5th October in the city Stadium in Skopje. Toše issued a CD in English. That CD was his last. He died in a car accident two years ago when he was 26 years old.

Why is he my hero?

He was an Goodwill Ambassador and so he helped a lot of kids. He didn’t spend any money on unnecessary things, but he was sharing it with others.
