Timothy Stackpole

A Heroic Story

Timothy Stackpole was a dedicated fireman who loved his job and always helped out. The day after he was named the Fire Chief, he went to help in the attack after the World Trade Center was struck by two airplanes and was killed when the Twin Towers collapsed. He was one of the first to get to Ground Zero. Stackpole led a team that charged into the World Trade Center to rescue victims after the towers were a struck. He and others all died when the towers collapsed. Ten thousand people attended his funeral. Stackpole grew up in the Brooklyn neighborhood, Marine Park, where he also raised his own kids. Stackpole died on September 11, 2001. He is important because he risked his life to save more people, never gave up on the job he had to do, and thought about more than just himself.
