Taylor Alison Swift

by Crystal from San Diego

Taylor Alison Swift grew up on a Christmas tree farm, having little money, and being bullied so badly that she had to turn to home-schooling. Having discovered her passion for music Taylor Swift eventually left the few friends she had in Pennsylvania and moved to Nashville Tennessee when she was 11, searching for a record deal. Being so young Taylor got turned down by almost every music studio she showed up at. But perseverance and her belief in herself paid off, and she was eventually signed by Scott Borchetta of Big Machine records, who recognized her potential and saw in her the star that was born. To many, Taylor Swift portrays more than just a Hollywood star – rather a deserving hero.

Growing up in Pennsylvania on her parents farm was not easy. Forced to be a loner due to bullying, Taylor became close to her only friend, Abigail, with whom she spent most of her early childhood days. Taylor was the butt of many jokes, largely about her parents Christmas Tree farm, and she was not popular at school. This relationship with Abigail was the basis for her later writing the hit song ‘fifteen’ based on the breakup between Abigail and her boyfriend. Taylor swift is an inspiration, and hero figure to many young girls in the world today, as she demonstrated that no matter what past you have, or whatever difficulties you may encounter, if one has a dream, and believes in that dream, then anything is possible, She is an inspiration for courage perseverance and possibility.

Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989 in Wyomissing Pennsylvania, on the family Christmas tree farm. She wrote her first song when she found out a good friend of hers had an eating disorder. That is when Swift discovered that she had a real passion for music, and mainly song writing, and so began pursuing a music career. Swift didn’t have a lot of money when growing up, and that was difficult for her, and so because of that people didn’t really befriend her much. Swift didn’t have many friends. Taylor's parents recognized the talent in their daughter, so when Taylor was 12, her parents sold the farm, and moved to Nashville Tennessee, to give their daughter the chance to succeed. Being recognized was almost impossible, but with Taylor's exceptional song writing abilities, she became the youngest person ever to be employed by Sony TV as a song writer, and she wrote 150 sons in two years. However, faced with a dilemma that the company wanted her to sing other writers songs (Rather than her own) she resigned. Scott Borchetta saw Taylor singing at the Blue Bird café, where he recognized the talent and star quality, and gave her a record deal, which changed her life (And her fans lives) forever. She released her debut single Tim Mcgraw, followed by her album which was certified multi-platinum. And if that isn’t enough her album Fearless in 2000 has topped the Billboard top 200 for more than 11 weeks, which no other artist has since achieved. To top it all off, Taylor Swift has become the 69th most powerful celebrity with earnings of over $16 Million – A true inspiration for her fans.

Taylor began her career really young at about age 12, and she persisted against the attitudes of people at the recording studios who saw her as a young child, and not as a talented writer and musician. She faced disappointment after disappointment, but refused to give up. She was determined to succeed, and determined to be her own person, and to sing her own songs. That deep determination had led to her being bullied at school, over her refusal to do what other girls in school did - like straightening hair. She did not want to be like a sheep – but to be an individual – for which the bullies punished her.Her strength of character made her determined to show the world that she had in her the will to succeed, the determination to make her dreams come true, and the talent to become a world class performer. She did what had to be done, and she succeeded against all odds, ignoring life’s difficulties and bullies, and concentrating on what was important in her life – Her love of music. Scott Borchetta remains Taylors manager and he is pretty much the only person in the industry who believed in her talents and was willing to give her a chance. As he recently was quoted as saying”For the past five months Swift has been everywhere from the VMA’S to the CMA’S to the Grammy’s. She seems to have performed at every awards show and come home with an armful of trophies”.(Arienne)

Today Taylor Swift is arguably one of the best known teenagers in America. She is a successful Singer/songwriter/actress, and has dominatied every awards show and the music charts. As her manager says, “Tayloys sophomore album fearless has spent more time at No.1 on the billboard top 200 than any other album in the 21st century” (Petruso). An amazing feat, when you consider it was written during Taylor's sophomore year in high school. This quote is significant because it shows how successful she has been, and if she had given up on her dream , she wouldn’t be where she is today. Many people think that the most important thing is what other people think of you. In fact Taylor has shown that it is more important what you think of yourself. If you believe you can do something, chances are you can. But if you have no faith in yourself you will definitely fail. . Most importantly is what you think of yourself and what person you want to be. This is a very important trait in being a respectable hero. And Taylor has that trait. Taylor is a hero to her fans because she has the trait of perseverance , she overcame childhood bullies, overcame poverty, she stood out from the crowd, she had parents who supported her, and she believed in herself and never gave up on that dream.

Taylor Swift is an inspiration to millions of girls all over the world because she did not give up on her dream, she believed in her talents, took a leap of faith and made her dream come true. Taylor encourages her fans to take school importantly and not to just get through it as easy as possible. “She is an inspiration to her fans and she says nothing but school and family is important in high school” (Brian). This quote is significant because it shows that she is trying to inspire her fans to stay in school, get a good education, and not to worry about anything else. Her fans look up to her and they listen to her. As a role model to millions of girls, Taylor brings clean living, the importance of school, and the importance of self belief to her fans – A true hero.
