Thom Edward Yorke

First I have to say that I don’t really have a hero of many people who impressed me. So I’m going to write about one of the persons who impressed me the most. The person I write about is Thom Yorke best known as the lead singer of the English band Radiohead.

Thom Edward Yorke was born on the 7th, of October 1968 in Wellingborough England. He was born with a paralysed left eye that was the reason for many surgical operations he underwent when he was a young child. As his eye was left mostly blind and with a hanging eyelid he claimed the operations as botched. His eye and the frequent moving of his family meant that he early got the feeling to be isolated. Early he started to play many instruments and played in many bands but only when he and his friends founded Radiohead did he become a serious musician. With Radiohead, Thom quickly got famous all around the world and up from the second album each became number 1.

"Yorke has become a cult figure but he has also garnered attention as a political activist campaigning for causes including fair trade, anti-war movements such as CND, Amnesty International, and most recently the Friends of Earth campaign 'The Big Ask.'"

The reason why Thom Yorke impressed me is first his music and second that he uses his fame to make people recognize political and social injustices. So that’s why he’s my hero.
