Terry Fox

Hi, my name is Amy from Bradford, Ontario. My hero is Terry Fox. I chose Terry because he raised money for cancer and ran across Canada for that reason. He also gave me the idea of running. Terry Fox had two names, his official name was Terrance Stanley Fox. As you know, his friends called him Terry Fox. Terry Fox had two brothers, one sister and a mom and dad. Darrel, Fred and Judith are the kids and Rolly the dad and Betty the mom. Terry Fox was born on July 28th, 1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Terry died when he was 23, in 1981. Terry Fox went to school at Mary Hill Jr. Secondary School, Simon Fraser University and Port Coquitlam High School.

Terry accomplished a lot over the years when he was alive. Some of his accomplishments were: he made all of the sports teams in high school and University, such as (soccer, basketball and baseball team). Terry ran, knowing he probably wouldn't make it from Newfoundland to British Columbia, so he didn't finish what he tried to accomplish. Terry Fox showed lots of character traits, but the ones that really stand out to me are kindness, confidence, courage and respect. I chose kindness because he is so kind to run across Canada to raise money for cancer. I picked confidence because he was confident to run a marathon for 143 days, and courage to run across Canada to raise money to find a cure for cancer. The last character trait I think Terry Fox showed was respect because he was respecting other peoples' lives and his life.

Terry Fox influenced me because he ran across Canada not just for himself but for lots of other people that have cancer. He also influenced me because he raised money to buy new machines and resources for finding a cure for cancer.

In conclusion, Terry Fox has become such a hero that I think, since more people are fighting the disease, you should start raising money and support the Terry Fox Run that takes places all across Canada in September of each year.
