To me, a hero means someone that can save people in many different ways . Some people may think of a hero as a person with super powers who wears a mask. But in the real world, there are many different heroes some people may not know about. For example, policemen, fire fighters and doctors all save people every day just like any super hero would. Also, a hero is someone that makes the world a better place. One example might be the Terry Fox Foundation that save lives every day for people with cancer. To me, a hero is someone or something that you can rely on if a disaster is about to happen like those soldiers that fought in the war to make Canada the country it is today. That is what a hero is to me.

My hero is Terry Fox. Terry is my hero because he showed me that one person can make a big difference. To me, Terry is one of the greatest people to ever live. Let's talk about some of the great things Terry did for this country. Terry was born in B.C and had two brothers and one sister. He loved to play sports and had a very close friend named Doug. All was well when Terry started to feel pains in his leg. He was taken to the hospital where the doctors told him he had some sort of bone cancer. The next day he lost his leg and was given an artificial one. It was at that time when Terry decided to do something amazing, RUN ACROSS CANADA. That's when the legend was born.

For those of you who don't know, here's what Terry looked liked. He had curly brown hair and he was tall. He was also strong,(phyisically and emotionally) sturdy and muscular. But when he was a kid, I found out that he was a bit on the short side, but that never stopped him. Why, when he and Doug were in grade eight, they were in a track meet with grades nine and ten and they finished first and second! That just proves that you're never to small to pull off something amazingly gigantic!

One of the main reasons why Terry Fox is my hero is his Marathon of Hope. He ran from Newfoundland to Thunder Bay with an artificial leg. Millions of men, women and children are diagnosed with cancer each year. Terry was voted most famous Canadian and was put in the WORLD RECORD BOOK. He is a hero to people who are fighting cancer as we speak. That, to me, is a true hero.

So what it all comes down to is that Terry Fox is my hero because of his grit, determination and leadership. He made a difference in this world that some people wouldn't even dream of doing even if their life was on the line! But things can happen, as Terry found out. It turned out that the cancer in Terry's leg had spread into his lungs. On June 28, 1981 he died in Royal Columbian Hospital in B.C. But Terry was never forgotten. The TERRY FOX FOUNDATION raises money for people with cancer and Terry is still a hero to kids like me all around the world.
