Travis pastrana

by Mitchell from Medicine Hat

Travis Pastrana is a professional freestyle motocross rider, and a professional Rally car racer who has won X-games seven times. Pastrana was also the very first rider to do a double back flip superman. Pastrana is the only Freestyle motocross rider to also rally car race in the same X-games

Travis Pastrana was introduced into dirt biking when he was four by his dad and when he was six and seven he began to race 50cc. Travis did fairly well then, but it's not till he started racing 80cc that he became really good. By then he was known as the best in the business because of his great racing skills that he pretty much taught himself, he was also better than everyone at jumping which led him to victory most of the time. After Riding 80 for a couple years he got a RM125 and started racing that and as usual he was doing really good until one race. This race was no different than any other race except for the unfamiliar track he's never raced on before, a couple laps into the race he went around a corner getting ready to hit the next jump and he came up a little bit short on the landing and went over his handlebars and broke his neck. This set him back about 3 months to let his injury heal before he could get back on his bike to race again. When Travis's neck healed he came back with a new bike and started training for free style Moto cross.

Travis Pastrana started freestyle motocross in 1999; it was the first ever freestyle motocross ever in X-games history. Travis won gold in that event with a score of 99, the best score still to the day in the history of X-games. After that win Travis won X-games gold four years in a row with a different trick every time. In 2009 Travis attempted a rodeo 720 and wiped out hard.  He didn't end up seriously hurting himself but he had blurry vision and a slight concussion.  That was also the first year Travis took part in rally car racing, and he was up against a very experienced rookie and lost the race. In 2010 Travis Pastrana won yet another gold medal by landing a double back flip. In 2011 Travis attempted a TP7 which is basically a 360 back flip but put all together to make a 720. No other rider has even attempted a TP7 in x-games history to this day.

Travis began rally car racing in 2004, he had a car built a couple years before that but just didn't race until then. Rally car racing is racing on dirt or pavement; most tracks have a combination between the two. In rally car racing there are jumps and corners that are up to 180 degrees. Pastrana races a Subaru-blackened Vermont sports car. In 2006 Travis was signed by Subaru to lead their new Subaru rally team U.S.A being paired with veteran co-driver Christian Edstrom. In August 6, 2006 Travis won gold in his first ever rally car competition at X-games. On December 16, 2006 Pastrana competed at the 2006 Race of Champions at the Stade DE France in Paris. Travis has won 16 out of 28 rally car races since he started racing.

Travis Pastrana is my hero because I really like dirt biking and he has raced in super cross, nationals, supermoto and freestyle motocross. Pastrana is a legend in dirt bike history.
