I picked Travis Pastrada as my hero because his attitude inspires me to keep pushing, so I can do my best at dirt biking, biking, snowboarding and anything I want to do.
Travis doesn’t let anything stand in his way from doing what he loves. As Travis says, “My strengths and weaknesses are the same. I’ve got the willingness and stupidity to try anything. If I think it is even remotely possible, I’ll do it.”
Let me tell you a little about Travis Pastrada. On October 8, 1983, in Annapolis, Maryland Travis Pastrada was born to the proud parents of, Robert Pastrada (father), Debby Pastrada (mother). Other family members who are important in Travis’s life are Uncles; Alan, Richard, Ronnie and Russell Pastrada and Greg Powell, cousin. At the age of 4, Travis received his first motorcycle. On June 11, 2003 at the age of 19, Travis was seriously injured when he crashed his corvette into a tree in Davidsonville, Maryland.
Travis has two important influences in his life, his parents Robert and Debby. His dad influenced him a lot. He always tells Travis, “If you say you are going to do something-you do it.” At the age of 4, his parents bought Travis a motorcycle for his birthday. They had to make sacrifices for Travis, like when his mom took on a second job and they re-mortgaged their house and sold their Harley and family boat. Through his career, he had many obstacles he had to overcome. Travis suffered a lot of injuries. From all of his injuries the 4 most serious are broken Pelvic Bone, Multiple hip fractures, dislocated spinal column and life-threatening internal bleeding. These were tough obstacles Travis had to overcome, but there are two things that Travis lives by, that allow him to overcome rough times. They are: No fear; which gives him the ability to keep pushing the envelope and Travis is able to shut pain out; he does not take drugs or medication, he doesn’t feel pain.
I consider Travis Pastrana a hero, because he never gives up, no matter what challenges he has faced, he finds a way to overcome them. Travis inspires me to do things and try new things. He inspires me to do my best at dirt biking, biking and snowboarding. He also inspires me to do crazy stunts when I’m G-Ting and tobogganing. His actions speak for themselves, as he became the youngest person in the U.S. to be selected for the motor cross. He became famous through his freestyle MX. At the age of 14 he was the world freestyle champion and he won a gold medal in the first ever freestyle event.
Travis has many achievements that he has accomplished, too many to name actually, but here are a few;
AMA Rookie of the year
Won 2 Super Cross championships in 2000
Won gold medal in the rally car competition at the 2006 X-Games
World freestyle champion at age 14
Holds most titles and championship wins of any X-Games Athlete
Travis is a remarkable person and athlete; he is always determined to do things and has passion for the sport. I say he is an amazing athlete because he has won so many championships, some at a very young age. His determination is obvious, as he is not scared to try new things. His passion for the sport comes from trying new things, giving it his all and he always wants to be the best in everything he does. I want to be the same as Travis, have the determination to keep trying new things and I want to be the best at what I do.
