TIM TEBOW, MY HERO

Have you ever heard of Tim Tebow? If you haven't, well I am sorry for you. Tim Tebow is one of the most amazing football quarterbacks in history. He is my hero because he inspires me to do good things and to help those in need. Tim Tebow has 4 really important F's in his life; family, football, and foundation, but, one of the biggest F's he has is faith. Faith is tied into all three of those F's.

Tim grew up in an extraordinarily faith-filled family. His parents were missionaries in the Philippines before, during, and after Tim was born. In fact, if his parents had not had strong faith then, he might not be here today. His mother's pregnancy was very difficult. There was a lot of bleeding and pain. One day when his parents went in for a check up, the doctors said that the only way for Ms. Tebow to survive was to have an abortion. They left the doctor's office puzzled. But Ms. Tebow did not have an abortion, because it went against her religious beliefs. Miraculously, Tim's mom stopped bleeding just before delivery, so they were able to hop on a plane to Manila. There, Ms. Tebow gave birth to Timothy Richard Tebow. The doctors said that Tim only had a little bit of the placenta connected to his body. It was just enough to keep him nourished all 9 months. Tim Tebow was a miracle baby. Timothy Richard Tebow was born on August 14, 1987 in Manila, Philippines.

In October of 1990, the Tebow family moved from the Philippines to Florida where they lived on Sheri Lane. They lived next door to Richard Fowler, who turned to be a close family friend, but the Tebow kids called him Uncle Dick, Uncle Dick isn't actually their uncle they called him that because he was like a close family relative  to them. Every Saturday morning they would go over to his house to watch TV, because the Tebow family did not have a television. Then, Mr. and Mrs. Tebow sold their house to live on a farm, so that the boys would have more room to play.

Tim grew up like a normal child. Tim grew up in a very competitive household. It was fun for him to grow up and compete with two older brothers. He started playing T-ball at the age of five. He never wanted to play just to have fun, he played because he wanted to win. Early on in the season he would try to help the other kids to develop their skills, but by the end of the season, when the points counted, if they couldn't catch he would do the job himself. He wanted the trophy.

Not only did Tim play T-ball, but he participated in every other sport in the world, including football. Football is what he now loves because he wanted to be like his big brothers. He is still as competitive now as he was when he was younger, maybe even more now. When he played for Nease High School, they won the state championship in his senior year. Then, the University of Florida (UF) recruited him. He went there for his college years. Tim got his major in family, youth, and community sciences. While he was a sophomore for UF, for the first time in the NCAA history, he won the Heisman Trophy. After he graduated from UF he got drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round. Now he is the quarterback for the New York Jets.  I bet you are wondering, 'Where does he show his faith in football?' Well that is a valid question. He demonstrates it everywhere in football. In college, he would put black stripes under his eyes and in white he would write a Bible book, verse, and chapter. Now the NFL doesn't let him do that, but they do let him kneel down on the ground after every touchdown, to thank God for the touchdown.

Finally, Tim Tebow loves spending time with kids in the Philippines and with any other children, probably because of his childhood experience in the Philippines. While he was in college he wanted to create a foundation but the NCAA regulations would not let him do that. Instead, Tim, along with some of his classmates, started "First and 15." "First and 15," helped hundreds of students on the UF campus raise money for organizations, including Uncle Dick's Orphanage, which is in the Philippines, and the Shands Hospital pediatric cancer center in Gainesville. Also, it supported a Disney trip for disadvantaged kids. He finally created the 'Tim Tebow Foundation' in January of 2010.

He shows faith by what he is doing for the kids in the Philippines and the disadvantaged kids. Also, at every game he invites special need people to the game, and spends time with them. Before every game he will, instead of being in the locker room, spend time with those people. Tim loves his community.

All in all, Tim Tebow is a very exceptional guy. He cares about everybody, and everything around him. He shows his faith thoroughly, in every single little thing he does. From kneeling down onto the football field, to playing with kids in the Philippines. He cares very much about his family, loves football, and has created a foundation. For him actions do speak louder than words. That's why Timothy Richard Tebow is my hero!
