Timothy R. Tebow

by Francesca Pompili

Tim or "Timmy" Tebow was the senior quarterback and honor student at the University of Florida. Timmy was born of Bob and Pam Tebow, Evangelist missionaries, in the Philippines on August 14th 1987, but then moved back to Jacksonville Florida. Growing up as the youngest of 5 children, Timmy was always very competitive athletically in football, basketball and baseball along with being a devout Christian who believed in having a very close relationship with his lord and savior Jesus Christ.

All the children in the Tebow family were home-schooled from Kindergarden until their senior year of high school. Despite not being enrolled as a student in the school, Timmy was eligible to play football for the local public high school, which in case was Nease High School in Ponte Verda Beach. He was the star quarterback all four years and once he was a senior, he held 80 full-ride scholarship offers from top ranked universities from all over the country. Eventually, Timmy chose his parents' alma-mater, the University of Florida. At UF Timmy won the Heisman Trophy as the first sophomore ever to be with the honor, he won 2 national championships, and won over 37 awards and honors. He is now an NFL draft candidate.

Throughout his athletic career Timmy always reminded himself that God gave him his amazing gift of being a great football player, so he should be grateful. And although football was important, Jesus Christ was his main priority. Timmy shows this through his selfless act of working with those who are less fortunate then him. Every summer and spring break since he was a child, Timmy travels to the Philippines to preach and work with all the young children in his father's orphanage. He has also started a foundation called the "Tim Tebow Foundation" whose goal is to bring "faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hours of need". Timmy also travels to prisons and correctional facilities to preach to inmates about how having a relationship with Jesus Christ will provide them with fulfillment and guidance all throughout their lives.
