Tamika Devonne Catchings

As many of you probably don't know, Tamika Catchings is a famous WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) player that plays for the Indiana Fever. I decided to pick her as my hero because I love to play and follow basketball (espicailly The WNBA). Her full name is Tamika Devonne Catchings. Her position is a forward. I say she is really good at playing basketball. Her birthday is on July 12, 1979. She now Weighs about 167 pounds. She went to Tennesse for college. She was drafted into the WNBA in the year 2002. Her town she was born in was Stratford, New Jersey. Her hometown is Duncanville, Texas.

Tamika Catchings was nominated for many things throughout her career. She was runner-up in voting for Devensive Player of the Year and was third in MVP. She was 2002 Rookie of the Year. SHe has also won an ESPY Award for Rookie of the Year. IN college she was the only women to score 2,000+ points and 1,000+ rebounds for one season. She has achieved many GREAT things in her career and in her college years.

Her parents' names are Harvey and Wanda Catchings. SHe has two other siblings. A brother and a sister. Her brother's name is Kenyon and her sister's name is Tauja. In college she majored in Arts and Sciences. Believe it or not her favorite WNBA player is not herself, it is Los Angeles Sparks, Lisa Leslie. Tamika is very smart. I admire her for her grades and ability to play basketball VERY WELL.

She has won many gold medals and many silver medals. In 2002 she won a gold medal for R.William Jones Cup. In 1997 she won a gold medal for FIBA Junior World Championship Qualifying Tournament. She also played on a USA Olympic team. She was the third WNBA draft pick. I think that is really good.

Catchings has had many injuries throughout her whole entire life of basketball. In college she broke her nose several times. Now in the WNBA she has broken her nose or at least hurt it in many ways. On July 6, 2002 she broke her nose from getting elbowed in the face by number 7, Ruth Riley, that played fot the Miami Sol at that time. Even though she has had few beatings, she has gotten up from them and didn't let them stop her. I think Tamika Catchings is the best there is and she tried her hardest. Many people look up to her, but I know right now that I am her biggest fan EVER!!!!
