Taura Danang Sudiro

Taura Danang Sudiro, who is commonly called Tora Sudiro, is an actor who was born May 10th 1973 in Jakarta. According to his parents, Tanto Sudiro and Pinky Mardikusno, his name was taken from a movie titled Tora! Tora! Tora! , that was showing in cinemas in Indonesia at that time. Besides that, his parents also took his name from his horoscope, Taurus. Tora is the oldest child. He had 2 little brother and actually 1 older sister, named Udiana. But she had already died because of a tumor when she was a child. So since Tora was born, his mother gave him a lot of vitamins to avoid the same tragedy that happened to Udiana. With a foolish expression, Tora said that was the reason why his body grew fast and he become as tall as he is now. Unfortunately, his togetherness with his mom didn’t last for a long time. His mom died in a car crash, in Brebes. At that time, he was only 7 years old. Then his grandfather took care of him, while both of his brothers were taken care by his grandmother (from his mom’s family).

In his childhood, he often moved from one school to another school. At first, he went to Al-Azhar Elementary School, and then he moved to Borobudur, Cikini, and moved again to Borobudur. He had to move because since his mom had died, his father had married a few times. When his father decided to marry again, Tora just accepted it. He assumed that everything was going to be OK as long as his father was happy. And that is Tora, a low profile man that we’ve known until now and who runs his life in a simple way.

When he stepped into the teenage years, he and some of his friends formed a band of a group, named 212 Stone Kompleks. That name was taken from his school’s name, 212 Junior High School. After that, he began to learn about bands, girls, tattoos, and narcotics.

Not long after his graduation from college, her father sent him to England. His father expected him to be a serious man, and said to him that all of the people there usually wear business suits. So he went there in a business suit as his father asked. But he was surprised, when he arrived there; a lot of people wore a batik suit, like the one in Bali. He felt so embarrassed. In England, he could only say just “Yes” and “No”, and sometimes OK. It got him into trouble a few times. But he just stayed there for 6 months, and then he went back to Indonesia. He spent time working in an insurance company, where his father worked. He didn’t work there in a long time, because his father sent him again, this time to Auckland, New Zealand. In Auckland, he took Travel and Commerce department in one of the universities in Auckland. But he didn’t finish his study there. He went back to Indonesia to marry his girlfriend, Anggraeni Kadiman, who is usually called Anggi. They were married at March 14th 1999. In the same year, their daughter, Azzahra Nabila Sudiro, was born.

At that time, he had been unemployed for a few months, before he worked at an insurance company. When he worked there, he had time to act in a movie, titled Tragedi, whose script was written by Raco, his close friend since he was in college. That was the first time for him to act in a movie, and it also signaled his existence in entertainment. It began developing his self-confidence to come into this new world. But after waiting for 3 years, there was no offer to act in a movie or television. So he was just an advertising employee.

When he moved to Ad Focus Advertising, he thought that the goddess of fortune had been next to him. At that time, his client, Kaliana Film, was making a movie titled, Ca Bau Kan, which is directed by Nia Dinata. Although their working connection had been broken off, but no longer after that, Nia called Tora to follow the movie casting. In the beginning, he was cast to act as Nino, but that character went to Surya Saputra, and finally Tora acted as Sakti. In that film, he had to kiss Nino (starring Surya). It’s the hardest part in the making of this film for him.

After his action in Arisan!, he got a lot of acting offers. First, he played a comedy film, titled Dunia D, with Nadya Hutagalung. But this TV program only presented in 3 episodes. Tora also took a part in a film, titled Bunda, with Dinna Olivia, and the last episodes of Malam Terakhir.

The next movie that he starred in was Banyu Biru. But that movie couldn’t make a big amount of gain.

Although it happened, Tora was a candidate to be one of The Best First-Rate Actor Nominations, with Nicholas Saputra and Ferry Salim. Finally, he got the highest and the most prestigious award for an actor in Indonesia. He won Citra Cup from Indonesian Movie Festival (FFI) in 2004 for his character in Arisan!.

Now, his happiness has been completed with the birth of his second daughter, Nayara Kanahaya Sudiro, on May 25th 2005.

In the middle of his activities in Extravaganza that is still rolling in Trans TV, he is unchanged. He is still the one who likes to joke, without pretending to be another person. Yup, he is Tora Sudiro………………. The one who inspired me in any situation just to be myself. He is also a good dad figure and he loves his family so much. That makes me admire him. The most important thing, that he isn’t afraid to do something that he believes in; he doesn’t care about his image as a public figure as long as what he does doesn’t harm someone else!!!
