DJ Tiesto, a.k.a “Tijs Michiel Verwest” was born January 17, 1969. Tiesto is a Dutch trance DJ and record producer. Tiesto easily became one of the world’s most famous people in the electronic dance and trance music world. Using many aliases in the past, his most prominent one is DJ Tiesto, which he recently dropped to simply have his producing name as Tiesto (which is a twist on his childhood nickname). Tijs Verwest is my hero simply because of his accomplishments and rise to fame in the Techno music industry. You’re probably wondering what other factors make him a hero.

On January 6, 2005 Tiesto performed a large outdoor fundraiser in De Dam, Amsterdam. Entry was free, but all profits from TV commercials and live broadcast were given to organizations that collect relief money for Tsunami victims. Not only does Tiesto produce stunning records and mixes, but he also contributes to those in need of financial aid. Tiesto has also performed at the Olympics many times. Tiesto was the first DJ to ever hold a solo concert in a stadium, which lasted 6 hours in front of 25,000 people. This shows that Tijs Verwest has the characteristic of courage.

He is currently 40 years old and shows no sign of slowing down. He has 5 music labels, has had 7 tours, and has 6 albums. His labels became a trademark that stand for high quality trance electronic music. In 1999, he played a 12 hour set, which became his longest lasting performance in Amsterdam. He has been crowned the “Worlds Number 1 DJ” 3 consecutive times by DJ Magazine from 2002 through 2004. It is needless to say that DJ Tiesto truly is a hero, through his acquired skills and many successes.
