I chose Ted Turner as my hero. I chose him as my hero because he changed the way we watch television.
His full name is Robert Edward Turner III. He was born November 19, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His father was like a dictator was very abusive to his wife and children.
Ted’s father was clinically depressed and due to his depression he committed suicide when he was 53 years old. Ted’s younger sister, Mary Jane, was born 3 years after he was. She was very ill and sick with a disease known as systematic lupus erythematosus, also known as lupus, a disease in which the immune system attacks the body’s tissues. She died at age 12. Ted has been married several times and has 5 children.
Mr. Turner has accomplished many things in his life and continues to. He inherited the family’s outdoor advertising company and sold it to buy a local news company and called it WTBS. It became the first “superstation” and was known as the Turner Broadcasting System (TBS). Six years later, he purchased the Atlanta Braves baseball team. In 1980, Turner launched the Cable News Network (CNN), the first twenty-four/seven news company. Other companies he owns are Turner Classic Movies (TCM), Turner Network Television (TNT), and Cartoon Network. In addition to winning the America’s Cup, he also won Time Magazine’s Man of the year in 1991. Hobbies that Ted enjoys are several outdoor sports especially hunting and fishing.
In conclusion, Ted Turner continues to have a big impact on entertainment and sports, which are two of my favorite hobbies. Ted Turner’s success is the result of his hard work, creative ideas, and the good family man that he is. That is why Ted Turner is MY HERO.
