My hero may not be the most famous of all people but he is not someone who should be seen as just a regular Joe. His name is Uesugi Kenshin, I found out that this man was someone who is, brave, Intellectual and a leader but who is also not afraid of showing mercy to those who need it the most. What I would define as a hero is someone who is ready to do something extraordinary, which most people wouldn't be able to do, and so whenever I looked up someone of those characteristics I found him, Uesugi Kenshin. This man was the warlord of Japan, he managed to unite them in a time of struggle and turn his country around and no longer have to deal with poverty and the difficulty of having a country that is divided between clans.
Born in the 15th century or the Echigo period, Uesugi Kenshin was born as Nagao Tamekage later to be adopted into the Kenshin family and adopt the title of head of the family, when he came it the family no one would have thought that an illegitimate son would become legitimised and run the household. This caused many people to try and oppose him and his newfound rule, as no one wanted to be known as a kinslayer they stayed away from plots and followed him anyways which ended up going pretty well. Even if everything was going well, plots were still in effect and ended up working. One day when he was going out for a stroll, he may have been assassinated when a man speared him from a cesspool.
He wasn't all that perfect. He was a drunkard and one could say he was a little envious towards the people who owned land that he wanted, making him perform several raids, but a hero doesn't have to be perfect. He has many qualities, some good and others bad. Nevertheless, these qualities are what make a person who they are. My hero was a dedicated Buddhist who was never married, never had sexual acts and adopted two children. He was a fortune builder as he managed to raise the economy, he was an emperor and a genius warlord, he was also a great tactioner who was ready to charge into battle with little to no fear at all. Something that may not be all that important is the fact that he was a well known poet, writing beautiful poems when he could.
When he first started uniting, Japan was divided by noble families who ruled over lands and had made it almost impossible to have any type of economy since they weren't happy with each other as they never united to make an exchange or any type of trade but once Uesugi came to be the leader of his clan he decided to try and do like many others before him and unite the lands. He started by uniting clans together and claiming wars over territories that others had previously owned. Eventually he conquered all of Japan simply because of his capabilities in war, He was a brilliant strategist and a his tactics where just as good. He started multiple war and managed to win many but that's not what I admire the most. The one thing above all that I admire is that one day, when his famed rival Takeda Shingen was at his lowest point and was cut off of his salt and rice supplies by the Hojo clan Uesugi decided that he was going to secretly sent over the supplies needed, saving them, he wrote "Wars are fought with swords and spears not with salt and rice" in that situation he could have taken out his rival once and for all but instead he lent him a hand, something most wouldn't do.
I do not feel as if I have a great connection to my hero but what I do have in common with him is the fact that when most needed I would show mercy to anyone that would need my help. This is what I find most important of all, never hitting someone once they are down, it is just not right. In conclusion this hero of mine may not seem to be that amazing to you but in my eyes he has all the qualities of a someone who I am willing to look up to.
