My hero is Vale Davis, Sr., who is my grandfather. My grandfather raised a family of six and worked on his farm. He enjoyed landscaping, fishing, hunting, gardening and cooking. He was always caring and would help a friend in need. My grandfather had many traits that fell under the category of hero - here are some.

The first, he had courage. When he was a forty he saved my uncle from a train. He also saved my cousin from choking on a cookie. Vale would also watch all seven of his grandkids at the same time. He always liked to challenge himself.

Second was his trait of integrity. No matter what happened, he would wake up when the sun rose and fall asleep when it fell. Vale kept the farm running full time while he worked for MODOT. He never would forget to pick the peaches, bail hay, and mow the lawn. Plus, he supported my grandmother.

Lastly he had responsibility. Vale never got behind in his farm work even though he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He would not let anyone else cut the turkey on Thanksgiving Day even though he was on a liquid diet. Vale also would cook at least one meal a day, which was difficult when they said he should be bedridden.

My conclusion is Vale Davis, Sr was a hero in many ways to many people. He did things I hope I can experience in my lifetime. But above all, my grandfather was my hero.
