Victoria Soto

by Hannah from Harrisburg

''What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.'' -Richard Bach

Victoria Soto was a young, gorgeous, outgoing, and most of all, inspiring 27 year old woman. She was a teacher living a happy life, and carrying on her purpose, to become a teacher. Her students describe her as "Nice...and funny". One of her students used to kindly tease her about her habit of chewing gum while teaching. He says 'she would just laugh and tease me back'.

Victoria had a family just like anyone else. She not only had a family but, a very loving family. Her family misses her dearly and loved her so much. There is nothing that they would not do to have Victoria safe at home. Victoria's sister Carlee tweeted that she stayed up all night creating green ribbons for Victoria's wake.

One tragic day, gun shots were heard around the school. Time stopped for a moment while Victoria huddled her kids into a closet. The gunman walked past two classrooms slowly, and killing approx. 16 people, including 14 children. When he finally reached Victoria's classroom he demanded to know where the children were. She thought for a second, then denied them being in the classroom. She said they were in the auditorium at the other side of the school. Adam Lanza (the shooter) then fatally shot Victoria and continued on his way.

Victoria saved many lives that day, in turn for her own life. Her family says that she talked fondly about her students all the time. They knew she would sacrifice herself for them any day, for any reason at all (Citing: CNN.com). Some say that this shooting was a hoax, but for the Soto family it was all too real.
