Jason Varitek

Jason Varitek is a catcher for the Boston Red Sox. Jason is the leader of his team. Everyone on his team looks up to him and his advice. Varitek went to Georgia Tech, and was a 1st round pick in 1994 for the Seatle Mariners. His first debut was on September 24, 1997 against the Detriot Tigers for the Red Sox. He got one hit that game.

Jason was a two time gold glover and helped the Red Sox win a World Series. In 2005, Jason was award captain of the Red Sox, being the eighteenth member given the honor. When Varitek was little he played in the Little League World Series in 1984. In High School Jason was a third baseman and a catcher for Brantley High School.

In college Jason went on and played for Georgia Tech. His number 33 was the only number ever retired by Georgia Tech. He was named by Baseball America to "All-Time College All Star Team". Some awards he has gotten are the Golden Spikes Award(1994),Rotary Smith Award(1994), and the Dick Howser Trophy(1994). On July 18, 2006 Varitek played his 991st game for the Red Sox breaking Carlton Fisks club record.
