Wilt Chamberlain was a man that many people respected. He was an African American male who lived during segregated times. People learned to like him because of his amazing skill as a player. Standing at seven feet and one inch he was a titan that blew by everyone on the court scoring point after point. He averaged 50.4 points a game, scored 50 points or more 45 times in the 1961- 62 season, and had 25.7 rebounds a game making him a basketball machine. Wilt has done a lot to make changes in the game and other things as well. He influenced rules like free throw, three seconds in the key, and goaltending. He also inspired a character on a show called "Fosters home for Imaginary Friends", that characters name was Wilt. In addition his greatness as brought about courage in many other great players today. One of his greatest accomplishments was the record that could not be broken; he alone scored 100 points in one game. Wilt had 36 of 63 from the field, made 28 free throws, and had 69 points heading into the final quarter. There were not many people to see this great accomplishment. There were no TV cameras very little reporters and only a few thousand fans to watch.
He was born to the name Wilton Norman Chamberlain and lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Wilt was born to a family of nine children. Some of the teams he played for were the Harlem Globetrotters, Philadelphia Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, and the San Diego Conquistadors. Chamberlain was born in 1936 Wilt had a lot of other dreams and goals. He thought basketball was a sissy sport. Wilt Chamberlain started playing in 1953 during his high school season. After Overbrook season over 200 universities wanted to recruit him. On October 24, 1959 he made his first debut as a NBA professional player. On October 12, 1999 Wilt Chamberlain died of congestive heart failure. Wilt has showed me personally some key things of how I go about my life. Back in his early days Wilt did not like basketball; he was more in to track. But by letting his peers and family influence him he was made into something great. It is basically showing me positive influence can really help you out. It also applies the other way around.
Wilt Chamberlain had to deal with discrimination. But he did not let it get to him when he was playing ball. This mean that you cannot let negative influences, even if it is as big as discrimination, get to you. Wilt's record against the New York Knicks influenced me as well. This is something that he did by himself that only one other player has come close to that kind of score (Kobe Bryant scoring 81 points). Besides his height, Wilt started out as one of us. In other words with hard work and determination I believe there can be another person to reach that kind of record.
