"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, sweat, and tears."(Churchill). These powerful words were delivered by the late Winston Churchill in one of his many speeches to the English people during World War 2. Winston Churchill was the prime minister of England during the war, and played a major role in defending his country and defeating the opposing Axis forces. While the majority of Churchill's fame came from his great wartime leadership and inspiring speeches, he can also be a hero when you look at his history of below average grades and general lack of talent in anything but English. No matter how much his peers beat him down, he always got back up. Churchill had a courageous personality and a way to inspire by writing and delivering speeches, and this was how Churchill was able to stand up to a beaten crowd that was low on hope, and forge hope through words, inspire dreams of victory, and become a hero to his people and the rest of the world.

Winston Churchill was a courageous leader who bravely charged head first into his problems to confront them as a man. In this excerpt, Anthony Storr states what made Churchill such a popular figure during the war time. "[England] needed a prophet, a heroic visionary, a man who could dream dreams of victory when all seemed lost."(qtd in Yeo). This quote describes Churchill as a "prophet", a description given to those who bravely carry new ideas and beliefs before unwilling crowds. Also, bringing words of hope and strength before a beaten crowd was no easy task. This next excerpt shows some of the struggles Churchill went through before his time as prime minister. "In 1899 Churchill lost in his first attempt at election to the House of Commons, one of two bodies controlling Parliament in England,"(Churchill). In this excerpt, it is shown how Churchill struggled to win over crowds at times, like in this election. However, because of his courageous personality, Churchill always got back up and back in front of the same crowd that had beaten him into the ground. Churchill possessed an amount of courage that everyone hopes to achieve, and he used this courage to do great things which made him known as a hero world-wide.

Churchill's talent in the English language and verbal deliverance of his writing made it possible to create and deliver hope-inspiring speeches to his country's people that inspired dreams of victory in a war where those dreams seemed impossible. Churchill was destined to use the English language to do great things from the time he was born, expressed in this excerpt: "The one thing he learned best of all, as he later said, was the 'essential structure of the ordinary English sentence-which is a noble thing,'"(Winston). This quote shows that his talent in English was essential to his writing of speeches. Furthermore, he used his knowledge in writing to create many sentences elegantly weave into awe-inspiring speeches. Also, this following excerpt shows how Churchill's skill allowed him to guide his fellow countryman to victory in World War II. "His gift for the English language helped him lead the English people through the darkest days of their history,"(Winston). The clarity in his words made it apparent to the English people that he was the leader that they needed. Furthermore, the leader that he was is a man that could craft courage in his people using bold, powerful words. The English people called out for a leader during that time with a back of steel and an undeniable knack for inspiring hope and courage, and Churchill was just the man to answer that call.

Winston Churchill was never an amazing strategist, mathematician, or scientific mind, but he had the two things he needed to be the man he was; a courageous personality and an astounding skill to inspire emotions through the English Language. His talent in English allowed him to write hope-inspiring speeches, and his courage allowed him to deliver those words. The secret to England's victories during World War II was not with strength in arms, but resilience and hope. Churchill was the one to craft that hope, not with the point of a sword, but with the point of a pen. Churchill became known as a hero through his writing and deliverance used in his speeches, and how he fearlessly did so.
