Walt Elias Disney

by Michael from Toronto

"All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them."

Walt Disney was not only a successful businessman, he was also an inspirational artist. Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago Illinois. He was one of five children in his family, which consisted of four boys and a girl. His passion for art could be seen from a very early age. Disney’s family wasn’t very wealthy, so he would sell his paintings to friends and neighbors to make a little extra cash. When Disney turned 16, he enlisted in the military but didn’t make it in because he was too young. He compromised by working in France for the Red Cross for about a year. His interest in art was very apparent at this point because the ambulance that he drove was covered from top to bottom in his cartoons.

Disney returned home and started a small business in commercial art without success. In 1925 he became recognized in Hollywood for his, ‘Alice Comics’. From then on Disney was a hit success in the entertainment industry. In 1937 he produced ‘Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs’, a box office hit, which is still considered one of the best films of the industry.

Disney also had another dream, and this was to have his own child. In 1933, his dream came true and he and his wife had a baby girl. Disney was a family man; he cherished his family and wanted an even bigger family. So a few years later Disney adopted a child.

In 1955, Disney dreamed of an amusement park where children and adults could come alive and have an unforgettable time. This became known as Disneyland and is still a place where kids imaginations run wild and dreams come true. I have gone to Disney World many times and can verify that it never gets boring. It’s a place where you can go and release your stress and be happy.

But there is so much more to Disney then Disneyland. Disney also produces movies, cartoons and sells countless numbers of toys in stores. Disney also runs many hit TV shows. As a kid growing up with Disney, I feel that Disney has encouraged me to think more creatively and see things in different ways. He also creates role models for kids to look up to and enforces good living. His creation teaches kids lessons about life that they may otherwise never experience. It also makes learning fun. This is because Disney believed in education through entertainment. He wanted every child to have fun and learn at the same time. Disney tragically died on December 15, 1966 but his dream still lives on and is inspiring the imaginations millions of kids across the world and for generations to come.
