The creator of Disney, Walt Disney (http://www.leadership-with-you.com/walt-disney-leadership.html ()) |
Disneyland, A
place we have all heard of or been to. It is a place that has wonders and
excitement around every turn. This place was created by one man who wanted to
make his dream a reality - Walt Disney. Walt Disney was born on December 5th
1901 in the town of Chicago. He was a writer, creator, and an inspiration. He
wanted to create a place for kids and adults to have fun during the tough times
of the depression. He was the inventor and manager of Disney Company. Disney
managed to create a location for his dream near Anaheim and named the location
Disneyland. To me, a hero must possess three main traits: responsibility,
helpfulness, and pride. Responsibility is when a hero does a task he or she
finishes it. A hero must help people out of tough situations. Pride some people
forget. A hero must be proud in his or her work so that way he or she can
create more of it. Walt Disney is viewed as a hero because of the way that he
takes responsibility for the things he has started and makes sure that he
completes it, helps people out the situations they are stuck in, and is proud
of what he has created and built for the world to enjoy.

Walt Disney is
credited as a hero because of the way he has helped out others in the past.
Walt Disney has helped out during the aftermath of World War 2: "After
serving in Europe as an ambulance driver in Europe at the end of World War I,
Disney returned to Kansas City, where he worked with Ub Iwerks at the Kansas
City Film Ad Company." (Lauder). Here, we have learned that Walt Disney
was taking people who were injured to the hospital after the effects of World
War 2. Walt Disney wanted to help others achieve their dreams of being an artist:
"In addition to his several theme parks, Disney created and endowed a new
university, the California Institute of the Arts, known familiarly as Cal Arts.
He thought of this institute as the ultimate in education for the arts, where
people in many disciplines could work together, dream and develop, and create
the mixture of arts needed for the future." (Walt Disney). From this, we
learn about Walt Disney's creation of a school for people to learn how to
master the arts. Disney has inspired people to go and take part in the
university he funded for. Through Walt Disney's ways of helping, he has shown
how he cares about others. He has given them a place to learn and study as well
as save those who might have been injured from the results of the war.

Mickey Mouse, one of the most famous cartoons (http://thepocomokepubliceye.blogspot.com/2010/11/mickey-mouse-turns-80-today.html ()) |
Walt Disney is described as one who is a hero
because of the way he carries the trait of responsibility. Walt Disney was
responsible for the failure and correction of his company: "Disney was
devastated when "Fantasia" did poorly at the box office and when half
his artists went on strike to protest his dictatorial style. The training films
combining live action with cartoon characters that he made for the federal
government during World War II (1939-1945), however, turned Disney in a new and
very successful direction." (Walter Elias Disney). We learn here, that
Disney led his company to a failure, but managed to correct that mistake and
bring the company back into business. Walt Disney corrected his failure to help
the company get back on the right track.
Walt Disney was responsible for all of
the movies that he and his company produced: "On July 19, 1950, Disney
Studios released the live-action feature Treasure Island, which was the
first of sixty-three live-action films that Disney oversaw before his death.
Other notable live-action Disney classics include Davy Crockett, King of the
Wild Frontier (1955), Old Yeller (1957), The Shaggy Dog
(1959), Pollyanna (1960), Swiss Family Robinson (1960), The
Absent-Minded Professor (1961), The Parent Trap (1961), and The
Incredible Journey (1963). Mary Poppins (1964)" (Lauder). With
the help of his company, Walt Disney created over sixty wonderful movies, most
of which where successful. Disney was the one man responsible for the process
of his productions. He helped make them all famous and amazing. With his
responsible mind, he had brought down his company and helped reinforce it. His
creations of his movies and company show how he was the man responsible for the
creation of Disney.

Walt Disneys first theme park, Disneyland (http://www.drfunkenberry.com/2012/01/03/disneyland-to-celebrate-leap-year-by-opening-for-24-hours-straight/ ()) |
Walt Disney holds the most important
trait of a hero, being proud. If you're not proud of your work, then you should
not create it or inspire people to use it. Walt Disney is proud for his
creation of the Disney Company: "In 1923, Disney moved to Hollywood and
founded the Walt Disney Company with his brother Roy. Iwerks later joined them
as a key animator. The company's first contract was to produce the short,
animated, live-action Alice Comedies." (Lauder). With some help, Disney
managed to create his company and start them off with a comedy television show.
Disney created his company to show that being proud can keep you going. Walt
Disney is proud for his most famous attraction, Disney World: "Besides his
many films, Disney is also remembered for introducing the theme park, an
amusement park built around a central idea. His Disneyland, the world's first
theme park, opened on 18 July 1955 in Anaheim, California, and features rides
based on Disney film characters and settings. The idea for the park came to him
years earlier. "It all started," Disney remembered, "when my
daughters were very young, and I took them to amusement parks on Sunday. I sat
on a bench eating peanuts and looking all around me. I said to myself, `dammit,
why can't there be a better place to take your children, where you can have fun
together?' Well it took me about fifteen years to develop the idea" Disney
remarked at the park's opening: "Disneyland will never be completed, as
long as there is imagination left in the world."
In 1971, after Disney's
death, his second planned theme park, Disney World opened in Orlando, Florida."
(Walt Disney). By creating a theme park, Walt Disney has shown that he takes
part in his work and enjoys it. Disney has created Disneyland as a park for
both kids and adults to go to have fun and be separated from normal everyday
life. Disney wants kids to use their imagination to better perfect the world
and the park. By keeping his head up with pride, Walt Disney has proved that
being proud in your work has an effect in it. He was proud in his company and
in himself, which led to the start and continued process of his Disney
Corporation.
Walt Disney is seen and described as a hero because of the way he takes responsibility of his creations and actions, helps others in times of need, and takes pride and joy in what he has shown the world. Walt Disney did many things as we have learned from. He helped out as an ambulance driver and created the California Institute of the Arts. He took responsibility when he led his company into ruins and rebuilt them and created a total of sixty-three movies. He has shown that he was proud for founding his company and for created his two theme parks, Disneyland and Disney World. Walt Disney inspires many others and me specifically due to the fact that he is a hero. He has exemplified the three traits of responsibility, helpfulness, and pride and shows them wherever he goes. He fills both kids and adults with hope, and shows them that if they let their imagination run wild their own dreams may come true. As I have shown, Walt Disney is a hero. He demonstrates these traits to himself and others. He continues to be a good role model wherever he goes and is proud to go anywhere. He does not let something stop him, but continues to build around it. This is the reason Walt Elias Disney is a hero in my eyes.
