Walt Disney |
Born December 5, 1901 in Chicago Illinois, who would have guessed that young Walter Disney would someday become one of the most famous men alive. From an early age, Walt had a growing passion for anything artistically related. Everything Mr. Disney did, he did out of his desire to succeed. He once stated, “I do not like to repeat successes, I like to go on to other things.” With this motto, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Mickey Mouse, Silly Symphonies and Snow White all became key stepping-stones for Walt’s great accomplishments. Known for his magical abilities in animation and for his genuine people friendly disposition, Walt Disney has become a hero for many, including me.
Heroes have many distinguishing characteristics. When one thinks of a hero, they most likely envision a valiant knight on a white stallion, rearing before a fire-breathing dragon. Walt Disney never held a knightly position. He never stood before a fire-breathing dragon. Yet, he managed to capture the hearts and captivate the minds of both young and old. Walt did not need to be knighted and he never needed to stand before a fire-breathing dragon; Prince Charming held those positions just fine. Walt Disney created enthralling adventures and lovable characters for all audiences. He showed remarkable heroism and so I call him my hero.
“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” –Walt Disney. One day, Walt had a vision. A vision of a place where families could play and have fun together, he dreamed of a ‘magical park’. By 1965 more than 50 million people had come through the gates of Disneyland. Walt Disney had successfully completed his vision, proving his determination and that dreams do come true, a remarkable hero indeed.
